William and Mary were King and Queen of England. She was more than just the wife — he was only king because she was queen, and she went on to rein solo after he died.

They founded the College of William and Mary in 1693 in Virginia.

William was the only child of William II, Prince of Orange, and Mary, Princess Royal, the daughter of King Charles I of England, Scotland, and Ireland. His father died a week before his birth, making William III the prince of Orange from birth. In 1677, he married his first cousin Mary, the eldest daughter of his maternal uncle James, Duke of York, the younger brother and later successor of King Charles II.

The orange carrot was created by the Dutch growers. There is pictorial evidence that the orange carrot existed at least in 1512, but it is probable that it was not a stable variety until the Dutch bred the cultivar termed the “Long Orange” at the end of 17th century – beginning of the 18th century. Some claim that the Dutch created the orange carrots to honor the Dutch flag at the time and William of Orange, but other authorities argue these claims lack convincing evidence and it is possible that the orange carrot was favored by the Europeans because it does not brown the soups and stews as the purple carrot does and, as such, was more visually attractive. [Both paragraphs borrowed from Wikipedia with help from a text on British history]

But the purple variety is much tastier and we don’t care about brown stews or soups. ( A neighbour has a carrot/rabbit patch. MMMMM hasenpfeffer)

    Just so you know:

“Who is the founder of William and Mary College?

    King William III

    Founded by Royal Charter

On February 8, 1693, King William III and Queen Mary II of England signed the charter for a “perpetual College of Divinity, Philosophy, Languages, and other good Arts and Sciences” to be established in the Virginia Colony as “The College of William and Mary in Virginia.”

When “Jeopardy” had the Colleges and University’s category, My late Husband would always answer “William and Mary”,if he had no other guess.Very often it would be correct. Their writers must have liked it .(No we didn’t bother making it in the form of a question,at home)
