I lived in El Secondo CA in the 60s and yes they did that.

Went to Virginia and they roll them up @ 8:00 pm. BYOB too!

I lived in a town where even the 7-11 closed at 9pm.

The airport runways are next.

“I go out walking after midnight.”

In our midsized town everything is closed at 5 on Sunday. No one goes downtown after dark unless you are looking for drugs.
