I did a lot of paint by numbers and they came out wonderful. However we had to take art class and OMG I was just terrible. The teacher called me up and said she wanted to meet with the principal and I needed to be there. So she told the principal that I really just didn’t have any art talent. She knew I wanted to learn more in office equipment so they changed me to office equipment. I kept quiet as I already knew how to fix it. However, best thing ever since I got to also take the class and Mrs. Ginolfi my shorthand teacher was in awe of how fast I took shorthand. I told her my dad would dictate and I would put it in the Gregg format as I wasn’t good at the other style. She got me up to 140 wpm and on some temp jobs I went even faster, due to not having the “legalese” in it.

I remember in my art class in school that my teacher gave us the assignment to bring in a shoe and do a pencil drawing of it. It was supposed to be realistic and the shoes were sitting right in front of us. I spent frickin’ hours on it. At the end – we had a couple of days to work on it – looking at my classmates with shadowing and layering to give the appearance of texture – I had to show what, at very, very best – could be termed a cartoon shoe. I ended up with an A-, with the note, “That much work deserves an A- regardless of the output.” I took it and ran.
