I used to read like that when I was a kid and even later. Now, not so much. I read so many books, I got read out. Now I do some audiobooks and lectures on history.
That was my childhood. My parents despaired of buying me books because I read 1200 wpm. Fortunately, we moved every year-and-a-half and I got a new town library to choose from.
As with many youngsters of my day, I was hooked on the Hardy Boys book series. I was devastated when later in life I learned that the man I hero-worshipped as the author, Franklin W. Dixon, wasn’t a real person at all but rather a pen name used collectively by random authors who had actually written them.

I volunteered 1 day a week at the Denver public library when I was a senior in high school; 10 books a week is all they’d let me check out at a time.
