@BillThompson (from yesterday)Nope, no ducking-and-covering. It was very clearly the fire alarm. In fact, there was some commenting from the faculty (most of whom are too young to have had duck-and-cover drills themselves) that if there really were a Civil Defense Emergency, having the students respond to the fire alarm—that is, evacuate the building—is probably the last thing you’d want them to do….That button was shortly afterward removed, mounted on a plaque, and presented to the teacher who pushed it.

Oh, hell, yes, I remember air raid sirens. Long Beach (just west of where I grew up) tested their sirens at ten AM on the last Friday of every month. You’d know it was coming but it still sounded eerie.

And, yes, one time I forgot about it. That happened when I was twenty, and driving through Long Beach. I was at a stop light, right under one of those sirens when it went off. I was doing seventy along Spring Street before I knew it. Fortunately the street was pretty much deserted and there weren’t any cops around. I wonder how I would have explained it to a judge in traffic court.

Seeing the contents of today’s strip, I can only conclude that Teresa broke into my house and found my collection of love poems written to me by my late wife.

    The graphics are thought disturbing.

The text is downright what? It is passionate, but passionate in a way that makes me wonder if this is a human being saying this or not.

@ Teresa: You’re welcome here in the Lowlands. I’ll be waiting for you at the airport – I’m the one that looks like Bing Crosby (well, at least as far as the hat is concerned).I can see Vlad riding a bicycle here in the Vladlands.

FEELING THE LOVEHow the heck do they index negative numbers of pages? If I was doing a blog like that, I’d try everything to get negative numbers of indexing.

Anyone else old enough to remember the civil defense drills in school? To this day I’m not sure how much good it would have done us to go out into the hall and line up facing the wall. Thank goodness we never actually found out! (I think I remember something said about trying to protect our eyes.) I was in the fifth grade and it made no sense to me then, either.

“Rerun fun” can mean “boredom” which can lead to BAD TRANSLATOR day!

…6 translations later, SDL gives us:

“Perhaps this is the Weisenlecken she and kisses my birthmark. Perhaps this is because its interromp that sonríe the trip of birds. Not nor although this be … its leopard bad day of the changes of hair can be able to help as and I nevertheless she the nagerement. For nothing the suim of saim”

    Also …

    Original text:

    “rerun fun”

…8 translations later, Bing gives us:

    “Nice to see”

Re: ♥YES, WE FEEL THE LOVE♥

Google: Highest, lowest and average values = ZEROYahoo: Highest, lowest and average values = ZEROBing: Highest, lowest and average values = ZERO

It’s unanimous! Frog Blog has ZERO value!

P.S. to Larry. Take a few page from Rep. Akin’s handbook: say you were misquoted, then say you misspoke, then apologize, then give up! (or, to misquote Clayton Williams, if a Vlad cold cocking is inevitable, relax and enjoy it)

YOUR LAWS VIOLATE MY RIGHTS. Drug Laws in this country are a horrible excuse for domestic terrorism by the State upon the citizens. The State does not have the right to say what you can and can not do so long as it doesn’t affect anyone else. This also applies to Seat Belt Laws (and a number of other things). Not wearing your seat belt is not a crime. The State is within it’s rights to encourage people to wear their seatbelts (i.e. offering a discount on tickets to those wearing the belt) but CANNOT require their use.
