When Francis first acceded to the papacy, he made some observations and policy statements that included a welcoming attitude to the faithful across the gender queer spectrum. And I thought, ‘Huh, we’re finally getting a Christian Pope!’

I want to add my voice to those who have observed, and I’m so sorry, suffered, abuse in their lives. It’s a tragedy, what humans can become inured to. Help is available, although sometimes it requires stealth and dishonesty to seek out. Many suffering abuse are even too afraid to look for it.
