My cat, Bogie, does that to me too! If I’m still sleeping when he thinks I should be up and filling his bowl he’ll wack me HARD across the tip of my nose. My husband thinks it’s hysterical…me, not so much.
Yeah Susan001 it’s a great movie. Wonderful characters and unforgetable lines and all in glorious black and white. So many terrific scenes. My favorite was the farewell at the airport “..the lives of 2 little people don’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.” (or something like that).
My favorite Bogart movie though was “The Maltese Falcon”.
As long as we’re on the subject, I have ALL those “Bogie” pictures you’ve mentioned, as well as a few others, like “Dark Passage” and “To Have and Have Not” (“You know how to whistle, don’t you, Steve?”). Sorry, no comment on Garfield (except claiming “I was just trying to get food” is NOT a legal defense for smacking your spouse - if you’re human)
Haven’t seen Casablanca, but plan to… and watch for the dialogue that wasn’t - “Play it again, Sam”
Thanks for the info (the others who responded with movie names, as well). My classic movie exposure is limited to Lawrence of Arabia, Gone with the Wind, and some of the Charlton Heston ones, but hope to set some time aside to make up for this…
You won’t regret it crytomaniac.
The old movies were beautifully acted and subtly filmed. The “special effects” reflect the technology of the day so have to be viewed in context.
Movies have gotten bigger but I don’t think they have gotten better.
These old flicks are so much part of our culture now.
You might like “We’re no angels” where Bogie shows his comedic side.

That’s it Garfield. Wake Jon up from his … whatever it is he is doing, other than feeding you.

My cats do the same thing to me - gotta love ‘em!

I’m going to try and start doing that. It would be perfect way to get food.
Bytheway has anyone noticed how Jons fingers are bigger then his neck?

Garfiel, a sigh is just a sigh. And the fundamental things apply, as time goes by.

At least you can understand the words being sung by the fire.

@Superfrog, Wordsworth you’re not, but I guess it’s the effort that counts. As one of my favourites goes:
Roses are red Violets are blue Most poems rhyme This one doesn’t
At least you’ve got the rhyming down pat!

If my cat slapped me like that for any reason she’d be out of here.
No I never did notice before but Jon does have an awfully thin neck doesn’t he?

Would that make Jon a “Penciled Neck Geek”?

Hi crytomaniac, That was just a few lines from “As time goes by”. I guess you haven’t seen “Casablanca”. I liked all the old Bogart movies. Cheers

garfield in my opinion is about how pointless life really is, people don’t like it because nothing happens in it. it’s a strip about nothing.

so it would be like the “seinfeld” of comic strips

The “Maltese Falcon” and “Casablanca” were both great, but so was “African Queen”. I also liked “Key Largo”.

i vote for “the big sleep” as well as “casablanca”

If Jon smakced Garfield after Garfield smacked Jon, then there’d be animal activists at Jon’s front door with the police. Won’t that be a story?

If I were in Garfield’s shoes, I would smack Jon’s head to make him waking up immediately.
