I see egotistical Garfield in the title panel tired to give the Selfie Stick a whirl. Darn you, Odie!

Those emergency tests come in both radio and TV. It gets really annoying.

Emergency system for cats? Well good thing they have nine lives at least.

I like the top panel more than the rest of the strip.

This is so behind the times. The EBS was replaced 19 years ago by the Emergency Alert System, which, in addition to the long tone, also has those “duck farts” to start and end EAS messages.

@C_812,This is the first time I’ve heard of those data bursts referred to as “duck farts.”

The emergency weather alerts still use what must have been the first synthesized voice ever invented, so garbled that sometimes you can’t understand it. The 20th Century is over. Get Siri or one of her pals to do your automated announcements if the message is so damned important.

You could row a boat in Garfield’s mouth.

Think about it a minute: Under the old EBS system, who would actually survive a first strike? Politicians (who likely had first word of the incomings) and broadcasters. How do I know? Simple: “If this had been an actual emergency, the attention signal you just heard would have been followed by news and official information that would be of no real use to you, as we would have gotten the warning first, recorded some bogus announcement for much later broadcast, packed our bags, headed for the hills and grabbed up all the good shelters – leaving you to fight like animals for whatever remains…”
