Looks more like Walt’s doing that “cross my heart and hope to die” thing in panel 1. Is Jim that subtle?

At least Gertie is taking the right action. I also wonder if Uncle Walt has a stroke that can effect his thoughts.

No one wants to see Uncle Walt go, but if the writer wants to remain true to what made Gasoline Alley so good when it started ninety years ago, there seems to be little alternative. People loved the strip because they got to see Skeezix and Corky grow up in real time. They got to see the confirmed bachelor, Walt become a happily married man. This is a strip full of real peole who live, grow and change. Although characters like Rufus, Joel and Kitty live in the eternal present, everyone else ages. Other character like Blossom, Bill, Avery,Rachel, Squint, and Doc were mainstays of the strip and they are gone. It may not be this year, but eventually Uncle Walt has to be a candidate for the afterlife or the Guiness Book of World Records.

I bet Walt, Avery and Doc were paying at least 19-cents a gallon for the gasoline!

@oldbooger – but they were probably paying a nickle for a quart of milk. At that inflation rate ($1.25 a quart today or 2500%) they would still be paying more for gas than we do.
