It’s not only Slim and Clovia we here my family are having cc problems too. College took care of that and out daughter has had to stop. Take until I retire 10 years or more to pay it off. Nothing on the cc is used for fun either.
I have a car needs worked done it’s driveable but don’t want to use the cc so laying cash aside to cover parts and labor. We’ve had to make sacrifies here. We don’t go to movies either. Thats where books come in.
axe-grinder. KS South Central land of unemployment.
I will be getting a little behind on cc payment. Be going to specialist for my rt shoulder 4-5 talking surgery. I’m still on my retired husband insurance. Also when my husband did retire. I had surgery done on my neck the place I worked at and still do tried and did terminate me I went to HR and they didn’t realize they implemented a policy they couldn’t do that and I got back under the disability act. Now that was even worse. Because SS decided my hushband made to much from retireing from, which he tried to use up, from vacation and sick leave. I don’t ever want to see those days again. So I continue look for a full time position and I still work pt. Go figure.
Only reason I replied to GA is so close to home for us.
Susan001 for us our son got involved with this one family of welfare people who conned him in getting a phone. We found out about it cancelled immidiately. We had to pay the family couldn’t 2 cents remained talked to them they said not to worry about it and I told them and still get a bill for the two remaining cents no way. So with our bill and the other I taped 2 cents and sent them together to get rid of the bill. Had a long talk with our son. And no we never got reinbursed nor expected to. The family used Welfare money for Marijuana. The house they had early city evicted them and they moved elsewhere. That was a nightmare.
My apoligies to all on a nice day just threw in my two cents in and this strip reminds me of what others and going through for cc costs.
Kab, I’m a New Englander. I think this area has not been as hard hit as many, but it’s all relative. We still have the highest unemployment and under-employment in many years. Lots of sad stories around here, but we’ve been able to eke along well enough, and I can’t complain. Best of luck.
There’s ‘interesting’ times (like the old Chinese curse) all over, not just the USA. Enough stories already for several Steinbeck books.
After some 17 years in three jobs at JPL in Pasadena (an outsourcing and two layoffs between), was laid-off five years ago, finally got early SS to cover the old house payment, now Medicare and started ‘retirement’ payments for the utilities. We can make it, but gave up CCs.
Put in a Victory Garden like Michelle O’s at the White House, and get ready to barter if/when the rest of the banking bubble bursts. Bank Locally, perhaps with a Credit Union. Save up for it, do without, find another way, simplify! Some day, we’ll get with the rest of the world and do Single Payer and simplify our medical financing, too.

Why are Slim and Clovia always portrayed as irresponsible young (middle age) adults in this strip?
Lets raise the bar for them sometime down the road.
