Yes Slim, you’ve been stiffed with that stiff bill by the no good stiff. You’re stuck for $220 by the stiff who stuck it to you! You could use a tip or two yourself! Pay up and learn your lesson.

Compare Clovia’s eyebrows to Slim’s in the last panel. Says it all.

Slim is just a weeeee bit slow on the uptake.

I love the way Scancarelli draws Clovia’s expressions. Leaves nothing to the imagination.

What if Chubby has died of a heart attack on the sidewalk outside the restaurant, and in his coat pocket they find a will leaving to Slim the deed to a South African diamond mine and 25 million shares of stock in Apple? What if?

What is Clovia giving Slim that look for? She’s just as big of a rube as he is. Probably bigger, since she knows who supposedly has the common sense in the family.

Have patience, everyone. Slim will figure it out in 2 or 3 years from now. But the end is not yet for Chubby, whatever his last name really is. Now, Clovia, go back to the office and check his car license number and report the theft to the police.

What theft? While it’s not right, it’s not illegal to offer to treat someone to dinner, then run out and leave them the check. Our Clovia is not going to run out on the bill which would be the only illegal act here. (‘defrauding an innkeeper” and the restaurant doesn’t really care that it’s not Clovia and Slim doing the “defrauding”.)

Jan, I should have made mention of the possible claim of theft of Chubby driving away and not paying his service bill at the service station. Nothing verbal recorded unless Chubby was wearing a concealed recorder, which wouldn’t be allowed as evidence without prior disclosure. Hopefully case not yet closed.

I had a cousin who did the same thing to me. The good thing is I never saw him again. If Clovia and Slim are lucky they will never see that bum again.

With how how this story went, is it even worth reading this comic anymore?

Clovia is as much to blame as Slim. She’s supposed to be the “brains” of the two of them.

I would like to see Gertie and Byrd get back together– after Chubby gets taken apart!

A shame that Slim and Clovia weren’t raised by wolves (as Chubby may have been). Their faith in basic honesty is endearing, but in the wild they would’ve been eaten long ago.

Walter Breuning of Great Falls Mont. has died at 114 so I guess our Walter Wallet has a run of at least 3 more years himself.
