matheson1953: Phyllis passed away in 2004. Jim managed to get all the way through the funeral without showing Walt, leading many readers (myself included) to conclude that Walt had passed. Based on a 1986 strip where Walt’s age was given as 88, and another in 2001 where his birth year was given as 1898, Walt will turn 114 this year, which, frankly, strains my suspension of disbelief more than a little. Most of the small number of Wallet family members Jim chooses to show seem to age normally, with the notable exceptions of Gus Alley and Kathleen Elly (Chipper’s twins), who were born in 1992 and were last seen looking like ten-year-olds instead of the teenagers they were at the time.We mostly see Slim and Clovia these days. We haven’t seen Walt in a daily continuity in a while, but he’s presumably still around. Skeezix and Nina turn up now and then, as do Rover (Slim and Clovia’s adopted son) and his wife Hoogy, as well as their son Boog (now 7). We last saw Adam’s daughter Ada in 1989, his sister Eve in 2005 and several other family members around the time of Phyllis’ death in ’04 (this may have been the last time we saw Judy). Corky, 83, still runs the diner.MIA for many years are Gretchen (33), Nubbin (58), and Gabriel (45).
Nobody is “going strong,” as you note. Not even the Star Of Our Show, Slim.
Maybe it’s time for someone to do a “retro” version of GA. Just ignore what has taken place and take us back to 1930 or so.
I’m not suggesting REPLACING the current “Slim Skinner Comic Strip”; just do a second strip for us guys. I’m sure that loads of people are enjoying how dumb a character can be.
Or is this an idea that someone has brought up already? Any voulenteers to draw it?
