    Some of the latest instruction manuals are written in half a dozen or more languages …. maybe he’s reading the Austrailian instructions, so everything is upside down.

    You don’t need a manual to know how to plug into a power outlet, and we’ve already established that there’s no way he could have plugged in the TV cables that would cause a shock, so the short must have been connected with the power. The thing is obviously defective, which is no surprise considering who he bought it from.
