A chair is used because it confuses the animal. It thinks the 4 legs are 4 different entities that will attack it.

I think Walt is Lion.

All those red eyes from things lurking in the jungle are quite spooky. Don’t worry, Walt. You will have them all petters in no time.

Fun Fact: Clyde Beatty was born in June 1903, making him five years younger than Walt.

If you look at the old strips, Walt was tall and muscular, not short and fat. Jim is putting Walt’s face on Slim’s body.

Walt was never slim, though I imagine he was fairly strong in his youth.
