Actually it was a banker named David Hannum who said “There’s a sucker born every minute,” in regards to one of Barnum’s exhibits, The Cardiff Giant. One of the things that Barnum did say (in his book “The Art Of Money-Getting”) was, “The desire for wealth is nearly universal, and none can say it is not laudable, provided the possessor of it accepts its responsibilities, and uses it as a friend to humanity.”
