    Actually, “four on the floor” was a 1950s term. AFAIK, it was never used in the 1920s, when four speed transmissions were all but unknown.

    Rebel got a job selling cars, and a quartet of his friends came to razz him while he was talking to a customer. He got fed up, punched them out, and told the customer, “And the best feature: Four on the floor.”
