That didn’t happen in the pressroom. That started in pasteup, went to the camera and then the guys in the stripping room made that plate and sent it out. The pressman wasn’t checking his copy.
I’ve said this about another comic (which recently ended) at another site that sometimes was sideways: At my age, I don’t want to turn my head or my monitor to read a sideways comic. And, it’s not worth it to save the image, open it, and rotate it.
This applies to GoComics as well.
The providers of comics should not assume readers are using printed media or handheld (mobile) devices. I’m using a desktop.
So is this what the strip has become? Just a character telling a lame joke to another character (a joke I’m betting everyone has already heard before anyway)? What’s next, two floating heads telling old knock-knock jokes to each other?
Call me old-fashioned, but I think in a joke-based comic strip the humor should come organically from the characters and situations themselves. Otherwise what’s the point of it?
It was a ok “lame” horse joke, but it would have been a h3lluva lot better if it had been our pipe smoking, professorial sage, Joel… playing the straight man to Walt.
Jim Scancarelli, you are a treasure. Thank you so much for such a simple, wonderful, amusing gag. You show that clever word play still has a place in our over stressed, over sexed, over everything world. Your art is always superb, your stories are a joy. Thank you again.

I don’t recall GA ever doing an April Fools’ Day strip. Is this a first or is my memory fading?
