When someone starts playing the “family card”, it’s time to get a second opinion.

I worked for a very small company. The owner/president starting talking to me in a private conversation about how we were a family.

I told him we were not a family and that he had no right to use myself and my colleagues as unpaid labor to wire up the sound system in his house for a party to which we were not even invited.

He really needed me. I already had other job offers. He cut out the family B.S. after that.
