Yeahhhh, I was tasked with taking care of my parent’s lawn — nearly a half-acre, and dotted with endlessly-shedding trees — for over ten years, growing up.
In my entire adult life, I have never, ever lived anywhere that had a lawn.
My take is that Gil strives for the security of home ownership. I talked my mom into buying grandma’s house and she ended up giving it to my self-righteous, no count sister who watches too much Fox and is so far to the Right she has her own lane.

This is like not having a pet so you volunteer at an animal shelter. That’s not a bad thing.

Gil, you can go to people and ask to rake their leaves for money!

Yeah, Gil. You could earn money raking leaves for elderly people and save up for the video game your mom won’t get you for Christmas.
