Cassie is in good position to understand Derek’s feelings.
This comic is really spot on when it comes to covering school/adolescent/sport situations.
We can laugh at it, and it deserves to be laughed at; but it has great moments like this.
A mediocre comic would have had Derek save the game for Milford, against all reality.
It has been a long time since Gil won a major championship. I don’t keep track the way some of you do, but it seems to be a very long time in football.
Vavation time. Maybe he will find a super quarterback moving into Milford!
I can’t decide if Bryce looks like Nicholson-era Joker or a zombie Jermaine Jackon. Sad to see Cassie falling victim to Milford’s rampant finger tendonitis. Tomorrow’s strip to introduce the transition to the next storyline?
Not every high school wins a state championship in something every year.
That said, I’m with Davidblack. It’s good that Milford boots things from time to time. Heck, sometimes they script seasons when the team gets pounded. I remember the season about ten years back when the football team was beaten down so badly the season high was letting Les Neemy - the only real star they had - carry the ball for a touchdown in the season’s last game.
(And after Derek popped for a few HUNDRED DOLLAR cab ride to get there, Bryce is jeering? He’s lucky not to lose some teeth. For once I agree with Peroxide Lolita.)
In reality, in what world does any school win in every sport every year other than our imaginatiions? I think that the writers put in crappy drawings and story lines to keep the interests of readers. At least I hope that that is the reason. But the bottom line is, as they portray, life is not perfect and you do hit bumps in to the road.
Well, one thing for sure…there won’t be any complaining coming from the “MHS Boosters Club”…there’s still quite a bit of shallow grave space left out at Carbone Cave.
Cassie and Derek will drown their sorrows away tonight with some partying as Cassie raids her parents’ liquor cabinet once again.
On a serious note…I have to agree that this was a pretty decent story line. Rubin and Whigham have been respectable for awhile now.
Don’t forget, we’re only one storyline beyond Cassie, Steve and Pizza Boy, Gil and the Chief of Police, and the ol’ Daily Double. That having been said, Rubin and Whigham have improved things – I appreciate the undercurrent of not-taking-yourself-too-seriously humor they’ve brought to the strip.

Gil’s an idiot for having him pitch…not realistic.

Hey Bryce. Why so serious?

The summer question is will Gil crash his plane? I think they took his pilots license away.

Is Cassie becoming flat-chested?

Derek is looking more and more like Tim Lincecum every day. I wonder if Brent Raptor is going to call Derek and console him.
