Gil’s best infuriatingly smug look in p3. I’ve never had a good idea of how big Milford is supposed to be, but I’d guess it’s small enough that it couldn’t field teams without two- and three-sport athletes. When I was in high school, you weren’t allowed to play football or basketball unless you played at least one other sport.
Eeesh. Y’know, Marty, a LOT of high schools are like this. The high school in my town had only 15 kids out for football this year, and had to disband the hockey program because there just weren’t enough warm bodies to do that and basketball too.
P1- Marty forced to sit in OfficeMax task chair while IL THORF issues a “Heil Five”P2- Moon still sporting his smoking jacket from previous night at BucketP3- IL looking a bit like the late Alan Thicke
How will “il Thorf” translate the veer offense from the football field to the basketball court??? Marty looks pretty buff in P1, he must do some serious body building when he is not drinking.
In all reality , Are we getting set up for a storyline about how club sports team participants are not on the roosters of school teams because parents feel the coaching level and exposure for scholarships is better playing on a club team ?
They aren’t wrong – specialization IS the trend. The injuries resulting from year-round competition/training for a single sport (think repetitive motion) have become so common that our local sports medicine clinic actually runs radio ads telling parents to give their kids a break – and maybe even (gasp) play a different sport to stay active.
Way back when I was in high school about half of the basketball team also played football and we managed to win a state championship. When was the last time Gil won one in basketball?
Yeah, pretty sure it’s rare that a high school doesn’t have at least one student that plays football and basketball. Other than the elite athletes, most aren’t worried about specialization. Of course Milford always seems to miraculously get more than its share of elite athletes. Which makes me think, aren’t we due for some talented player to move into the district, or transfer in, or come in as an exchange student? That hasn’t happened this school year yet, we are way overdue. And speaking of overdue, yesterday’s Mopped Up Thorp is overdue, but today’s is not. Doesn’t matter, they are both now available at:
Sometimes Gil looks a little like Ronald Reagan, but today I see more Robert Ryan in P3. BTW, has anyone ever seen Marty and Uncle Gary together in the same panel… I thought not.
P1- Marty: Repeat after me. I, state your name, pledge allegiance to the frat…with liberty and justice for all. Somewhere, Delta Chi President Robert Hoover is smiling. P3- Pledge trainer Blutarsky. "Thorf, we’ve given this a lot of thought. Your Delta Chi pledge name is………

In p1, is Gil taking an oath of office or holding up five fingers so Marty will grasp what he’s saying?

Gils smug attitude is largely due to the fact that Martis new boss is Uncle Gary!

Gil: Marty, I want to run the weave this season. Can I borrow yours?

So once Uncle Gary’s gig was up, he took off his glasses, fixed his hair, and went back to his gig as Marty Moon.

Is Marty getting Gil to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth or is Gil just doing his Tonto impression in P1? How.
Hmmm, bucking a trend, eh. Are the Mudlarks playing donkey basketball this year?
Uncle Tonoose/Marty slurring the words he’s putting in Gil’s mouth in P2.
P3, You want to talk about depth? Big Ken Brown is a 7th year senior, you think I don’t have depth?

P-1: Gil reveals both his team’s make up and his new shower strategy. (Is a trend some new type of Loofa?)
P-2: He’s right, you can’t specialize in Basketball and alternate between offense and defense. These kids will just have to do both.
P-3: Depth in the program isn’t the problem. It’s depth in the story line.
