I too have been reading and enjoying Gil since 1972 (and eventually read most of the strips before that). And yes, times have changed since the old football-basketball-baseball-summer annual cycle. And I get the point that the many new sports deserve coverage. But 3-4 threads at a time are hard for me to follow and don’t do any of them justice.
