The job I had for the last fourteen years of my career was the best one of my life. My boss was absolutely the smartest guy in any room, in the quietest and most effective way. I would only go to him with a technical problem after I was completely stuck. He would take time out from being West Coast vice-president, come look at the problem and suggest three possible solutions after fifteen minutes. Sometimes the solutions I didn’t use taught me more about future problems.
