I still have a frozen image from an Easter Sunday (circa 1965), visiting our aunt in the country, and my brother and I were all dressed up in our holiday best, ready for church, but while waiting for our parents to get ready, we decided to go out back and look at the chickens in the chicken coop. We walked around and around it…the ground was soft and warm…nice, actually. My white shoes and socks were covered in this nice, gooey “soil”. Of course, you have already guessed what we were stepping in. And you can imagine how much trouble we got into when my parents discovered us!

Misery is walking barefoot across a meadow and finding out it’s a cow pasture the hard way.
