Tonsillectomies were promoted by the dairy industry.

And yet you still can hardly eat it because your throat feels like sandpaper covered in gravel.

Sometimes it is necessary. I had chronic tonsillitis as a child. Doctor didn’t want to take them, I finally grew out of it at around 19. 35 years later I had tonsil cancer. Is there a connection…darned if I know.BTW: My ENT told me that there is no way that a surgeon can remove all the tonsil tissue, and they can actually grow back..I also didn’t get any ice cream when they also didn’t give me any ice cream when they took mine out. I asked for a beer, but they wouldn’t give me any of those either.

Almost all my peers had their tonsils out it was like a rite of passage, 2nd grade, tonsils out… I had constant infections in my tonsils and my adenoids made it so I couldn’t breathe, so they had to go too… my kids never had any of that, nor most of their peers… I’m quite convinced this is because my parents smoked 2 cartons a week of cigarettes, filling the air in the house with toxicity and there were none allowed around my kids.

Nina K I was four. I had the infections later because I lacked the lymph nodes that could have absorbed them. I vaguely recall just not having the appetite for the ice cream. It’s a little hard to remember back 79 years.

Grew up in the DC area (in the 50’s-60’s) but we had various pediatricians – most of them German or Eastern European. Usually, they didn’t believe in removing tonsils unless necessary.Of the four of us kids, only one had her tonsils removed.I still have mine.
