Similar situation for me, except I was trying to open some child proof seal on the container for my medication. Three stitches from the ER and all was good…..
P38 or P51 would be safer and neater. Just go around the blister, or a couple of edges of it. I think Gray is old enough to have one with his tags somewhere.
I have a tool, with a handle and a recessed blade similar to that of a letter opener, made exactly for this purpose. Unfortunately, I can never find it when I need it.

Small garden shears work well on plastic packaging.

I read an article that said a majority of ER visits resulted from Sr citizens having lacerations while opening packaging.

I’d need an EMT scissors to get in to the package with my new Leatherman tool.

Sharp knives open them easily. Dull knives require too much force, slip, and cause accidents.

Knives are a dangerous tool in a determined job. Saw a couple fingers cut off in my days.

I’ve heard a can opener works for that. I haven’t tried that.
