Through a turn of events, my step son’s dog ended up living at my house for the second half of its life. She was never “my” dog even after he moved out, but to her last she was always happy to see me when I came home and would keep me company when I was alone. I suppose it sounds strange, but we spend a good deal of time just looking into each other’s eyes without either saying anything until she would lick my face. I’m not sure who got the win in those staring contests.

I wish I could have a dog. Just a small one, or medium. Male or female. Young or old.

I have loved my sister’s dogs. Can’t have any of my own.
