Mrs. Angelini: Now, now, none of that! When I was your age and I was bored, my mom would send me out on the streets looking for stray chunks of coal and firewood. Heart: That actually sounds sort of interesting.
when i was in israel, a couple of the days on kibbutz were spent picking rocks out of the field, where they were switching the use of the field to something that required deeper plowing. my parents had spent x amount of money for me to pick rocks out of a field. of course, if i could have gone with the kids who’d actually picked cotton, that would have been an even better story. ah, missed opportunities.
Just think: if the people who owned the factories kept the people working, they wouldn’t have that problem would they? That’s what happens when the capital is spirited away from the country and stored in a tax free haven. Only the bank and the owner of that factory benefit, since he can still claim a tax write off…

Back in the days of steam locomotives, people would walk the tracks looking for any coal dropped from the train.
