I don’t feel uncomfortable. I feel educated. Discomfort is from guilt and I know (from my other black friends and acquaintances) that I haven’t made any mistakes (yet. I’m 100% certain I have, but it’s nice to get affirmation that I haven’t so far). Every day is a learning experience and I appreciate learning something new. Especially if it can help those around me.

In my experience, “being made to feel uncomfortable” consists of having people tell you that no matter how much you’ve done to reach out, help others, and lift them up it only counts if you display specific tokens and gestures while denouncing certain groups and individuals.

    It’s not helping a thing.

I’ve said recently that racism is a part of the human condition, but is it really? I’ve noticed that little children often play together, black, white, brown, round eyed, slant eyed, they often play together without noticing each other’s differences. Instead, little children notice that black Anthony can stand on his head, and white Billy can climb trees, and asian Su Lin can do cartwheels. They don’t see the race, gender, age, or body type, all the things that we adults see instantly and make judgements concerning. No, we’re not born racist. It’s like that song from the broadway play, South Pacific, the one that says, “you have to be carefully, carefully taught.” I hope we old dogs can learn new tricks.

Isn’t it racist to assume Herb knows what BLM activists will say just because he’s black?

My major objection would be on the grounds that I hate meetings and seminars

I would love to believe we could all be compassionate and aware without having to have someone tell us how to do it

I know too many real people to actually believe it

A White Devil! Hide the silverware! How appropriate it is to choose not a vile bigot to represent those who must learn to feel uncomfortable, but an innocent recurring character whose crime throughout the years is boorishness. I shall sleep soundly knowing Bentley is keeping the world in check.
