ralston: Tyr, no sensible person today should eat meat! tyr: meat is not about "sensible", it's about deliciousness! ralston: hardly! tyr: Well, what about that guy? ralston: hamhock!! hamhock: hey, "you eat what you are," right?...
The whole BSE (“mad cow disease”) thing came about because commercial beef factories were grinding up dead and diseased animals and mixing them with the feed given to other cattle. Eating your own species is a great way to spread disease, and probably part of the reason cannibalism is taboo in most human societies.
Eating human brains can give you Kuru, but other than that you won’t suffer any ill effects (aside from a guilty conscience, criminal prosecution, and/or a dwindling social circle) from anthropophagy.

Hamhock wouldn’t happen to be related to Pig from “Pearls Before Swine,” would he?

Ha! I have some friends who have a couple of pet pigs, and they love pork. (Both the people and the pigs.)

Eating meat is okay. Preferably the meat came from an animal who lived a long life and was treated ethically.
