Also tell them to stay in the shade. Man! This heat wave is unbearable.

Yesterday: The Detroit fans greeted the evil ump with a round of applause since he tried to recall his call. GM gave the pitcher a car as compensation (Like he isn’t paid enough already). Not being a Toyota it won’t be recalled too soon. The fans recalled Bud Selig and sent him a fingered salute.

free, I wondered why the official scorer just didn’t change the play to an error and at least wind up giving Galarragga a no-hitter, even if he couldn’t get the perfect game.

MisngNOLA, I saw the scorers comments on that. There was nothing in the play that he could charge any player with an error. No E-1 (pitcher), no E-3 (first basman). How about E-Ump? That would be a first.

Coincidence? Prescience? Very timely, Mr. Moore! But condolences and compliments to Mr. Joyce and Mr. Gallaraga. True sportsmen indeed, with a lesson for all of us. As a local commentator said, “Admit, apologize, and move on.”

A total coincidence, dsom8. The cartoons this week and last week are “sick leave” reruns from 2000. I just had knee joint replacement (ACL tear in college finally caught up to me.) … But you’re right about Joyce and Gallaraga. They both handled it perfectly.

Thank God it wasn’t C.B.Bucknor umping. What a nightmare that would have been! Obama would have to have another “Beer Party” to settle that dispute. Maybe Al Sharpton would stick his nose in it, too.

At least, Joyce had a pretty good reputation.

Steve - Maybe there’s something positive to be gleaned from it - might your surgery & recovery be a new source of material for you? I’m reminded of the Herman comic where the soldier comes home with a sword through his chest and the wife says, “Every cloud has a silver lining! Now you’ve got two swords.” :-D
