When I worked for the Audubon Society, I received calls from a local golf course about a hawk that was interfering with the games. The hawk was not attacking the golfers; it turned out it was a juvenile Red-tail practicing its hunting skills, catching golf balls mid-flight as if they were prey birds. The golfers whose shots ended up near the pin were not the ones complaining: it was the ones whose ‘perfect’ shots ended up way out of the way. The course gave out a lot of mulligans until the bird finally grew up and found a territory of its own. Still one of my favorite bird anecdotes.

Let him go. The first time he tells anyone a group of squirrels robbed his golf clubs at gunpoint, they’ll send him to the nuthouse.
