    Olympic champion, Paul Anderson, who at one time was considered the strongest man in the world, use to make barbell plates out of concrete. He was too poor to be able to afford real weights.When he went to the Olympics, he wasn’t sure exactly what he would be able to lift.

    I’ve actually seen guys use old axles with dual wheels for barbells. Not sure how much they weighed, but it’s more than I can lift.
