It’s nerves. Interviews are awful. What do they determine? Who gives the best interview. Many great employees are passed over for candidates who “did better” in the interview. Remember that interviews are stressful, and do not test for the skills needed for most jobs.
I thought my interview for a reverse-engineering job as electronic draftsman was a high-water mark when I was asked to draw a power supply circuit and I asked so many questions relating to the specifics of the circuit they just skipped the drawing part. Then I heard of the guy that drew a rectangle with circles on each end with a plus sign in one and minus in the other, and “Battery” in the rectangle. Bested me.
