Give your mother a little credit, Jane. Whether she knows you’re a lesbian already or not, she IS your mother. She loves you because you’re her daughter, not because she thinks you’re straight.
Um, you do realize that the reason many people won’t come out to their families is because being gay isn’t “mainstream” in a lot of areas, and because they run the risk of being disowned or kicked out, right?
That’s part of what the gay rights movement is about: making being gay as normal as being straight, and we’re just not there yet!
