Wouldn’t Doctor Appleby’s family include a lawyer? Juris Prudence, perhaps, or even Ambulance Chaser?

please tell me they’ll at least have expectations of his little sister being a doctor as they do of their son…. it’s bad enough that Jojo is ‘president’ and sunny is Dr. Appleby’s secretary.

[Year long tally: 21 Nonsensical : 137 Realistic] Thank you, Robb, for today’s funny and realistic comic!!! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ While “Second Chance Appleby” works ok for today’s comic, and that is why I am giving today’s effort a realistic rating… I think that “Second Chance” as a name choice is not in keeping with the parent’s original intent in naming their kids way back when Doctor Appleby was named. Names that would have been more in keeping with that spirit would have been things such as: “Lawyer Appleby”, “Professor Appleby”, “Surgeon Appleby”, or “Dentist Appleby”. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Now, that said…. I personally think it would have been incredibly funny if the parents would have taken it “to the next level” and perhaps had named this little girl “Laureate Appleby” (for Nobel Laureate) or “Pulitzer Appleby” for having her aim towards getting a Pulitzer prize.

And, of course, her first name is Second and Opinion is her middle name.

My mother is a retired MD, and the first woman to graduate from her Medical School (1952!). When my sister was in kindergarten (circa 1966) she would tell her little friends that her Mommy was a doctor… and no one would believe her! All the little girls told her, pityingly, “No, Daddies are doctors; Mommies are Nurses!”

I know men named Major, Colonel, and 2 named Commodore — plus a woman named Princess. They’re all vets (including Princess), and as far as I know, none actually retired with the rank in their name.
