Doctor Jupiter: “You have an infection of sentient beings. Their free will is messing with your ecosystem.” Earth: “Am I done for, Doc?” Doc: “Hardly. These things aren’t very common, but your risk factors were increased when you started doing Life.” Earth: “It seemed so cool at the time! What do I do?” Doc: “Well, these things can run their course in a few ways. You’ll either run a fever and burn most of them off, or they’ll kill themselves, or maybe they’ll realize their parasitic relationship with you doesn’t work and they’ll evolve into a symbiotic one.” Earth: “Well, any of those will be fine, but how often does that last one happen?” Doc: “Not as often as we’d like. You’re in for a rough time in any event, but hey, you’re over 4.5 billion years old, and you’ve only had this infection for a few thousand years. It may take you a while to recover, at worst case you won’t be able to support Life for a while, but eventually you’ll make a full recovery.” Earth: “Thanks Doc, that really helps. I love my humans, but man, they do ITCH!”
