I live in a rural county and we have a large Amish population. Some people don’t like them for various reasons but I like them and get along with them well. About the only problem they cause me is when I top a hill in my car AND THEY’RE RIGHT THERE!! I have lowered my speed to 45 in Amish country.
But I suppose a good shock now and then it good for you.
I live one county over from Lancaster, PA, the epicenter of the Amish, but I would have to drive at least 50 miles before seeing a horse and buggy. But when I occasionally do get out that way, if I find myself almost admiring them for sticking to their principles, I stop and remind myself . . . they’re nuts! At least they’re a lot more harmless than most religious fanatics.
Any time I have had an opportunity to visit Lancaster County (where the food is delicious) I have found the Amish and Mennonite communities to be the nicest people I have met. It must take patience and a good attitude to deal with outsiders who don’t understand your way of life.

Obviously not California, because the shoulders aren’t packed full of cars.

I love the way the animals, particularly this horse, are drawn in this strip. They are full of character.

Horses and buggies have to wait in traffic, too.

HAHAHAHA!!! Having grown up in PA, this is hilarious! Robb, you nailed it! Especially since they, most likely, are on the Schuylkill Expressway.

In “The Valley”, Lewistown area of PA, we’ve seen teenage boys “drag racing” their buggies.

What to drive when your George Jetson car is elsewhere — maybe lost in customs as luggage, for example.

An ebike works, too. Cut right through traffic.

I remember returning to Utah from the eclipse. While the highways ran at a standstill motorcycles were going up the gaps between the lanes.
