My Mom taught me to read when I was four; the kindergarten teacher was actually miffed about it..

My mother was a school teacher for a while, but we all (6) learned enough at home to be really annoying in grade school.

I remember Hector from The Daily Orange (circa 1983)! Even the same goggles!

Which takes me back to ….Teach your children well, Their father’s hell did slowly go by, And feed them on your dreams The one they picks, the one you’ll know by. Don’t you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry, So just look at them and sigh And know they love you.

Thanks for the memories and EW.

My three-years-older cousin taught me how to read when I was three years old.She grew up to be a teacher (now retired). I grew up to be a writer, and now, in advanced age, I am a guide at a historic cemetery wher I get to research and write all that I tell my audiences. So, in some sense, I’m a teacher, too, just like my cousin Linda.Thank You, Cousin Linda!

I still remember my mom teaching me to write the letter ‘a’. She made me hold the pencil with my right hand, and expected me to start writing. But it just didn’t feel right to me. Then I tried it on my left hand, and was on my third ‘a’ when Mom was in the kitchen screaming, “SHE’S LEFT-HANDED!!!”
