Teddi and Tommi are the most precocious twins I’ve ever seen.

Between this and Baby Blues when did kids become so distrustful of Santa?

My middle sister’s birthday is December 23. In terms of gifts and such worse than mine.

But mine is October 31 and to this day I hate it. My husband hates it that it is my birthday as I will not do anything to celebrate it. Last time he convinced me (a couple of decades ago) to go out for dinner locally for my birthday we were using a ticket from one of those “give a donation and get a book of discount tickets for restaurants”.

It was a much fancier place than we would normally go – but it was half price. There was a dance band and a dance floor and other upscale amenities. Hmmm, thought maybe a good idea.

Then the bus boy came over with water. He was covered in “dirt and blood” and a lab coat – he was a monster creation. Our waitress came over to see if wanted a cocktail (never). She was a female football player covered in dirt.

After that we went on and off to Lancaster, PA and we go to a Mennonite restaurant where the staff is not in costumes. All in all, I would rather stay home and cook dinner than go out.

We have had maybe 10 trick or treaters in 35 years here. Since we do not have children only the children in the house on either side of us knew us – and only one house has had children at a time. Must better to stay home and ignore birthday completely – just hard to convince him we should do that.

(I also no longer- for maybe 2 decades – do not get gifts for birthday, Christmas, or Chanukah or otherwise at my request. There is nothing I need or want. Okay – every 4 or 5 years maybe I need a new pair of sneakers and a new pair of jeans – but they are necessities not gifts . )
