It was called the Windy City originally, I am told, because their politicians were full of hot air, not necessarily because of the wind off the lakes…which is pretty fierce in winter, I’ll admit.
Looks just like that here today. Here being a couple of hours south of Chicago. As for the Chicago wind discussion above, here’s the first couple of verses (but the first two lines are what counts) of Steve Goodman’s A Dying Cubs Fan’s Last Request:By the shore’s of old Lake Michigan Where the “hawk wind” blows so cold An old Cub fan lay dying In his midnight hour that tolled Round his bed, his friends had all gathered They knew his time was short And on his head they put this bright blue cap From his all-time favorite sport He told them, “Its late and its getting dark in here” And I know its time to go But before I leave the line-up Boys, there’s just one thing I’d like to know
Do they still play the blues in ChicagoWhen baseball season rolls aroundWhen the snow melts away,Do the Cubbies still playIn their ivy-covered burial groundWhen I was a boy they were my pride and joyBut now they only bring fatigueTo the home of the braveThe land of the freeAnd the doormat of the National League

Yea…..I have been out in that wind off of Lake Michigan in January…..not enough clothes in the world to keep you warm on the ramp at O’hare airport.
