    Sadly, he was one of the most savage – as was his son who, if memory serves, was responsible for essentially wiping out the entire population of what is now called Haiti.

    Judging a historical person from 500 years ago by modern ethical standards is stupid. Columbus was a product of his times. The diseases spread from the east to the west were impartial and accidental, horrific, but accidental. The accusation of “genocidal murderer” implies intent. Where is Columbus’ intent documented?

    There’s no myopia on my part. The two documents you site are modern & so are making the same mistake. You site examples from history. So what? Acceptable morality changes over time. Death penalty laws are one modern example. I don’t mind you disagreeing with me but your personal insults say more of you than I can. Enjoy the day, SSJ
