TV: People are saying mental illness, misogyny and racism are to blame for the latest mass shooting. Not the easy availability of guns. And if you say that, you are a crazy, chick-hating bigot!
There Are reasonable gun owners who are Not mentally ill, are Not misogynists, and are Not racist. Even if we tried to lock up all the guns in this country, they would still be extremely and always available to the criminal element… ;)
So one of the nut-jobs killed 3 with a gun and 3 with a knife. That’s a taste of the knife-violence we’d have even if all guns magically disappeared.
BTW, this is an invalid argument: “Country A has/doesn’t have B, so we should also have/not have it.” Examples: Country A has state-owned industries, bullet trains, military conscription, socialized medicine, etc. Deciding what America needs should be based on America, not countries that either hate us or wish they were us.
That’s right, and being awash in guns is working so terribly well for the US. What’s next, a massacre a day? I can’t even keep the last week’s worth straight..Clearly,the answer is better mental health. So let’s screen all 310M Americans and let the gubmint decide who’s mentally-balanced enough to own guns. That OK with all of you?.The guy in Seattle was disarmed when he stopped to reload. It sickens me that the NRA and its worshippers would have preferred he not need to reload.
Anyone watching the excellent AMC program “TURN”? The British occupying garrison just confiscated all the guns in town. So who cares what the Australians or anyone else does. We are Americans. Would we be safer without guns? Perhaps; maybe even probably. But we wouldn’t be freer. If that means nothing to you, then you, like our President, don’t understand America.
@pschearer, Are Canadians, New Zealanders, Australians less free because they didn’t rebel? Maybe the Americans (nice gig to take for yourselves the name of a continent) rebelled to carry out what the Pilgrims couldn’t do in Holland where they fist went: to discriminate against who wasn’t one of them.
Look, all o’ youse: I’m not stupid enough to go into a cowboy bar and argue gun control, but I’m not gonna rant and rave about the evil guv’mint taking our guns away either. I’ll keep quiet and enjoy my beer with the rest of ‘em. -What I would like to do is hide behind the door (be the fly on the wall) listening to a knock-down drawn-out debate between ardent advocates of the two camps. I’m sure both will present well-martialed reasoned arguments, but methinks the gun advocate will have a more visceral approach; that take being less likely to be the more successful of the two.
Don’t think we’re so stupid we don’t understand what “our President doesn’t understand America” means. He probably understands it far better than you do. And you can disagree and I can’t?

You can talk and you can talk, but at the end of the day the US still has more annual gun-related deaths than any country in the western world.

But their politicians were willing to take the heat and lose an election. None of our career politicians have the guts to do that.

I wonder what “a well regulated Militia” stands for in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution. The US Supreme Court, what a joke it is!

So, anyone who disagrees with you isn’t really an American? Who gave you the authority to determine that? The other birthers?
