Cuco: Well, many Latinos stayed home during the midterm elections. Was it out of frustration with the president's immigration policies? Eddie: Of course it was. Or it could have been my sweet comfy sofa.
That’s not exactly an intelligent reply, guy! I’m sure there must have been many different “reasons.” Depends on how many are registered voters. If you don’t like either party, well, start your own. Who knows, it might end up being a major party itself. No offense intended…
Had to love the response yesterday. Here is a interesting quote. The humanizing of War! You might as well talk of the humanizing of Hell…As if war could be civilized! If I’m in command when war breaks out I shall issue my order—"The essence of war is violence. Moderation in war is imbecility. Hit first, hit hard, and hit everywhere!"
—Sir Reginald Bacon, The Life of Lord Fisher of Kilverstone, Admiral of the Fleet
In short until a country is Fat Dumb and Happy via economic means, their people are just as vicious and blood thirsty as any third world country’s citizens. If you have to scratch and claw to survive, you care for your own and take from outsiders what you need to survive and prosper. I pity this country if we ever really go into a deep economic depression that the government can’t support the poor. A lot of people will probably lie down and die.
Unfortunately fanatics always show up. If it were up to me I wouldn’t accept election results where the popular vote is less than 51% and I would have election upon election until such a quorum is reached. Republicans, ptui.
I hope all you commenters on this site who are annoyed that voting is difficult will remember that the reason is because in some other election the opposing forces of craziness did not go out to vote. It was too hot, too cold, such a long line, such a problem. Before the crazies passed laws to prevent as many people as possible from voting, you had the luxury of getting through that line in 1/2 an hour or less, or sending your vote by mail, or going on the weekend, voting up to a month before the election, or registering and voting on the same day. Now, not so much of any of the aforementioned luxuries. Some people will stand for hours in the weather, to cast their ballots on one of the three machines their State has allowed to be used at their precinct. Some people will be challenged when they go to vote and find their name has been struck from the rolls in some pre-election purge. Some will have to wait in lines where toilets have been closed (Miami/Dade Florida). Some will be asked for identification they don’t have, and have no other reason to have. And, if they give up and go home, the people who get elected will make it even harder to vote the next time. If you want to have a Democracy, you have to research who passed the laws to require you to stand in line, you have to stand in line, and you have to vote for people who will make voting easier for you the next time. Yeah, it’s hard, but what do you think they plan to do to the Middle Class if they don’t have anyone voting against them? All this came about while you were taking that delightful nap instead of voting last time you had the chance. Do not ever think your vote doesn’t matter. Vote yourself and spread the word to everyone you know. These insidious governments did not come about by accident and they will take your freedoms from you one by one and you will laugh and say they can’t do that and yet here we are and they are doing it. Don’t be the one who allows this.
So the takeaway is that Latinos, as in the past, just don’t go out and vote, for any reason.
Not exactly. More that they don’t particularly turn out in midterm elections.
Of course, they, like so many others this time around (lowest voter turnout since 1942!) didn’t exactly have folks to be fired up about voting for, at least on the national stage. I mean, when you’re a Democratic candidate for Senate and you can’t even bring yourself to admit you voted for the president from your own dang party (ahem, Ms. Grimes), then what do you actually stand for? If you’re so lacking in backbone that you can’t even call out in your opponent’s own words (with video evidence!) of their straight-up lies (McConnell) and crazy talk (Ernst), added to which you don’t really even run on Democratic principles, then really, why should you expect anyone to vote for you over the other candidate?
But you’re right about learning from the past. And what many folks apparently did not learn, or didn’t care about, is that the fewer people who come out to vote, the more Republicans win. Republican leadership, to their (dubious) credit, has learned this lesson quite well, and taken action with it in mind, both in terms of running campaigns that have been shown in the past to depress voter turnout and by passing a series of voter suppression laws. Mission accomplished!
I still think part of it is that the MSM ceded the election to republicans months ago. Why bother to vote when you’ve been told repeatedly that the r’s will take the Senate and keep the House?.And the Democrats didn’t help themselves by being republican-lite. In Georgia, we had two candidates that had a shot at winning for governor and senator. When I read their positions, I said “I’m voting for them….why?”.As for republican voters, when faced with a crook and an outsourcer, they voted for the real republican no matter what he had done, just as they always will.
And considering the huge numbers of folks tossed into prison here, and how long their sentences are—including for nonviolent, victimless crimes—it makes even more of a difference.
" the predominantly wealthy white democrat elite ".Hilarious! Have you told the Kochs, Adelsons, and most CEO’s in this country that they’re all liberal?
