There’s even been a Muslim Green Lantern, though he’s been kind of shuffled off-stage.

Ms. Rodriguez is a very good actress who has a following among action movie buffs. I’m surprised Lalo hasn’t used her as a good example.

If I remember correctly her remarks were about superhero movies and the need for minorities to find their own mythology..I had a problem with that. Sometimes the best actor for a comic character is not of the same race. .No one but Michael Clark Duncan could have carried the role of Marvel’s The Kingpin. The sheer size and heft of that man can make a normal person pee in their pants a bit and THAT is what The Kingpin should be..Also the thought of Morgan Friedman as Perry White in Superman vs Batman makes sense, as a actor he can carry that role. He can really give that supporting role dimension and depth..Idris Elba has been rumored to be playing The Green Lantern. He can give that character an on screen presence that Ryan Reynolds lacked (though Ryan will be killer as Deadpool)..I think it’s wonderful when Hollywood looks past the color pallet to cast characters from comic book we grew up with.

Actually, there’s even an entire sentient planet, Mogo, that’s a member of the Green Lantern Corps. (Yes, a planet. The planet itself.) There’s no one Green Lantern.

Michelle Rodriguez’s initial comment was off-base, and she apologized for it. While she’s right that Hollywood could use more creativity, including new superhero characters that may be of whatever underlying identity, as Night-Gaunt points out, the default is still white. The power structures in Hollywood are still largely white. The biggest movie franchises these days are, in fact, franchises, based on established properties. And those established properties have, for instance, superheroes who have been historically portrayed as white. So to allow for some of these characters to become more diverse, while at the same time creating a larger diversity of characters, would seem to be a great way to go. You know, to reflect the diverse, diversifying population that makes up our country.
