There was violence on both sides. I detest the KKK, skinheads, etc and all they stand for, but they DID have a right to march, protest the statue’s removal, and carry their slogans, plus they had a had a legal permit to do so. Even the ACLU backed their choice of venue. Turn this around: BLM has a lawful protest, and the skinheads show up and attack them, a riot ensues, same thing. The anti-protestors should have stayed out of it, they broke the law when they attacked other citizens with different views.
Freedom of speech and the abuse of that freedom of speech is a very narrow line to walk. Sometimes it is hard to tell where one ends and the other starts. That is true. To see men marching under another flag, not of this country, pledging their loyalty to an ideal that doesn’t include part of our nation’s people, and carrying torches of fire brings feelings of instinctual fear from a part of our brain that goes bak to prehistoric times, does engender a fear in all but the shallow. Some of the white supremacists anger is from the Perceived audacity of having Black man as president, as if one’s color made such a difference.
To zip: The initial attackers were the white supremacists. Over and over on videos, they were the people getting in others’ faces, attempting to shoot people, beating people within an inch of their lives. Oh, and threatening clergy members. Oh, and right, I guess we’ve forgotten that they actually managed to murder a young woman. Stop apologizing for white supremacists. They are anti-American, racist, violent thugs who revel in hurting and even killing those who disagree with them.
Agrestic: wow, you managed to miss the point again. Wipe the foam off and look in the mirror. Repeat after me: “Our country ensures that ALL of us have the right to free speech. All, All, ALL!” If the counter-protestors saw that the marchers were armed and dangerous, they should have walked away. Instead they gave them what they wanted the most: notoriety and publicity. These are not nice people—-avoid them and ignore them!
