SF, fantasy, and comic cons are probably the only places in all of the various entertainment media where the creators actually get real, heartfelt feedback from the consumers. My suspicion (never confirmed by asking actual authors) is that they’d probably rather hear a thotful criticism than yet another fawning gushation from a mindless fanboy.
Hopefully, most of the comments, especially the critical ones, don’t hurt their feelings. At least, if your creation is being critiqued, it shows someone has actually seen it and cared enough to discuss it. And…if people adore it, they will never forget it and learn from it and share it with others.
