We fought an entire war to get rid of the British monarchy (and good riddance, too), and now we can’t get enuf of them. To be fair, they’re nowhere near as nasty as Mad King George, but that’s probably because all their power got stripped away, leaving them as the world’s most expensive useless figureheads.

Vero, did you forget that your fellow American Markle got married into the British royal family?

The Spanish Crown ruthlessly exploited, destroyed and exterminated vast numbers of new world cultures and peoples. The British Crown was no exception to this on a Global scale. It is time to view monarchy as a plague on humanity instead of a form of hyper celebrity worship.

I know Liz was old, but I don’t think she was around in 1601 when the last bit (Hong Kong) was added.

While it would be nice to blame the world’s current ills on a small group of people who happen to be descendants of monarchs, democracy enables us to replace our scapegoats periodically and diffuse the blame throughout an entire culture.

Presentism: judging the past by today’s standards. Though I think these guilt campaigns are about gouging other’s descendants for cash. Part of my background is Polish; about 80 years of the last century the country was occupied by another. Pick up, be glad, and move on.

Liz was generally a decent enough person & her example of behavior in WWII deserves recognition, even if you despise the Monarchy. I thought of her as a living flag. She held no real power, so it seems weird to hold her personally responsible for British foreign policy during, let alone hundreds of years before her reign.
