They did a town renewal and it was a joke. One attraction was the Barber Museum. I guess they thought that millions would flock to it. Lasted 3 months I think. Then there was another museum where the director made off with all the valuables saying he was protecting them in storage or some such idiocy.
Live a the little town of South Haven in MI. We used to have foundries and factories, but NAFTA and Globalization closed them all. Now we are a tourist town and as the former workers sell their homes and move away, this is exactly what occurs. Tear it down and build a huge multi-bedroom and baths house, then rent it out for boo coo cash during the summer.
In California, you often have to rebuild the historic structures to modern earthquake standards. Building collapse is not viable form of historical reenactment.
