@Buzza WuzzaI tend to use ellipses…a…lot. Partially because that’s what Stan Lee did in a lot of Marvel Comics (and I grew up on those) and I like to recreate that comic book feel. Also because I like them.
But I almost always use them when I’m continuing a sentence across word balloons. My theory is that it helps the reader link the parts of the sentence across the balloons. If other people think it gets in the way…I’d be interested.
some people thought that all politicians are the antichrist. like ronald reagan, because he had 6 letters in each of his names(wilson was his middle), they said 666, mark of the beast, the whole revelation hoopla.
I thought Buzza Wuzza was referring to the the dots on the clothing. Then again, I have a weak mind. I use the ellipse in my notes recording conversations all the time to indicate pauses anhd such. The comic ellipse is very common and here was so well used that I would imagine that most of us didn’t even consciously see them.
@DoctorLarryOOh, you’re probably right. The dots on the clothes. I’ll admit they’re sorta odd. The pair of them look like they’re wearing measle-theme clothing.
To me all the dots, those on the clothes, and the ellipses in the conversation balloons, all work fine. The sports jacket he’s wearing is supposed to look kind of plush, I think, and she’s just in polka dots. Red and black have never been my favorite combination, though.
“Measle-themed clothes” … there’s a great meme for a Friday!

I find ellipses lead to the next thought but with the appropriate pause. A period would be too much, a comma too little. But an ellipse… just right.

John:
My writing tends to resemble morse code – lots of dashes and dots…! Keep them coming.
Love the Stan Lee reference as well. I grew up wanting to be half as creative as he was at the time – perhaps my next life…

Yeah, all those dots don’t bother me either.
The red and black remind me of checkers, but some how the rest of the top reminds me of “chess”…

“Measle-Themed Clothes!” What a great name for a band!

Today…I learned what an ellipse is. (Plus… how to spell it.)And to think they say this comic stuff is a waste of time.
